I bet there are not many people who've not heard of lovable cartoon character Wile E. Coyote. For those of you who not, this character always comes up with some ingenious way to catch his prey, the Roadrunner. Of course, it never works and the failures often leave the Coyote facing some horrible impending event. Most of the time it involves falling off a very high cliff and having the apparatus falling on top of him. The funny part is seeing the look of realization on Wile's face as he's haning in the air realizing that there is only one direction of travel.
Since I've included the word Olmpic in the title I bet you've already guessed that I'm going to compare Wile E Coyote to Austraiian pole vaulter, Steve Hooker. I watched him last night running down the ramp all happy to vault himself over the bar. Just think of the anticipation, the focus and concentration on making it over the bar. Are these guys not thinking about what happens when they hop over a bar that is almost 6 meters high? That is seriously high and what goes up, must come down. The only consultation is that if you don't quite make the bar height, the bar will come crashing down on you after you've landed. That has got to be Wile E Coyote moment if there ever was one!
