IntelliJ Analogy and Bad Internationalization

posted Sunday, 18 November 2007

Howard Lewis has switched to IntelliJ and although the does claim that the transition from Eclipse wasn't without its difficulties, he is now realizing the benefits. The one point that I liked about the blog entry was his comparison of IntelliJ and Eclipse to the metric/english system of measurements. Both systems of measurements get the job done and so there would seem (on the surface) no reason to change from English to metric. The change from English to metric is not without pain (I know, I've been through it). However once you've made the transition the advantages of working in metric start to become apparent.

This really should be a comment on Howards blog but blogspot is coming to me in a strange mix of Hungarian and English. Howard's blog is in English but all of the instructions and other things are in Hungarian. I made a stab at getting through the menus but I missed on something and I'm feeling lazy at the moment to sit down and sort through it. However, I have set the default language in my browser yet blogspot is ignoring that and instead looking at my ip address (I'm guessing) to determine language. Kudo's for trying to be clever but I would have like to have them recognize that I've already picked a language.

PS, they are not the only site to miss on this. Last night I was buying stuff at amazon.ca and for some reason I kept getting the product pages in a strange mix of French and English. The page does contain a link to allow you to switch languages.
